Mallorca car hire ... to rent or not to rent that is the question!
Car rental in Mallorca is big business and with all the competition you can
usually get a great deal. This is particularly the case in the off season as
excessive summer demand can cause severe price hikes.
Pre-booking rental cars in Mallorca is usually the cheapest way to go but
before going ahead with your reservation ask yourself the big question ... do
you really need a car?
If you're on a package holiday then transport will be included from the
airport so it's pointless booking a car rental. Once you're at your hotel you
might decide that you fancy an excursion during your stay. If you take a look at
what your hotel and local travel agencies offer you'll see that trips to most
attractions around the island are available so again you can avoid having a car.
Also bear in mind that drink driving is a very serious offence in Spain so
having a few beers whilst on a self drive excursion isn't a good idea.
Having said all that you might be the type of traveller who likes to get off
the beaten track and discover more of the island than the imeediate area near
your resort has to offer. For instance the drive along the
north-west coast of Mallorca is one of the
most beautiful drives you're ever likely to do. Unfortunately, the amount of
traffic during the summer months destroys the experience so try to do this
during an off-season holiday if possible.
